The Social and Epistemic Value of ‘Fake News’ in Cambodia

Fresh information is a popular Khmer-language online reports outlet which has emerged for Cambodia’s change to hegemonic authoritarianism. The emergence provides paralleled a government crackdown on storage compartments of self-employed media that enact the liberal democratic project. Clean News includes a particular swing in articulating, legitimizing, and trying to craft support for the regime’s fresh notion of democracy, advertising an ongoing judicialization of mega-politics, and disseminating a task of ‘fake news’ that attempts to create an epistemic shift.

In this article, I use an inductive way of analyse the transcripts of formal selection interviews conducted when using the attendees of a day middle and their activities with media. The results demonstrate that ‘fake news’ is not simply a partisan political smear but an significant component of the socially significant dimension of sharing ‘news’. Attendants perceive the ‘news’ they share with one another as part of their id since older individuals, and this results in a sense of belonging within their home life context.

In light of the finding, I just consider the implications with the broader social and epistemic significance from the post-truth second. In this impression, the term evokes more like this than just an era marked by simply an chafing of truth, facticity, and civility in discourse and public your life; it also signals the breakdown of modern projects of disciplining knowledge.
